Deeper Links for Better SEO Optimisation
A lot of webmasters and developers focus all their efforts on optimising the homepage of their website, and pushing all backlinks and links from articles to it. This however is a mistake which could cost you a great deal of traffic.
Almost every website should have traffic directed not only to the homepage, but deeper pages within. Normally, your primary keyword might be the homepage, but you should have secondary, or long-tail keyword focused pages linked from the homepage, so you should treat each page to its own linking strategy based around its keyword. This way, you optimise your website for every keyword, not just your primary one.
The question to ask, which should be evident from your pages, is which keyword to focus on per page. Lets take the example if you had a website called ‘Radio Communications’ which had pages focused on ‘Radio Microphones‘ and ‘Walkie Talkies‘
The homepage of the website would be built, and marketed around the keyword ‘Radio Communications’, whilst the walkie talkies page would be focused around the ‘Walkie Talkies’ keyword etc.
If you then created a link campaign, and/or an article campaign writing about the individual page topics, and linking directly to the pages, you would fully optimise your website. You might even realise that some pages are more popular (or less competitive) than others, resulting in your keyword optimised pages ranking higher than the homepage! For this reason (and for search engine spidering reasons) it’s vital to have links from page to page, helping your onpage optimisation filter through your website.
So remember, as crucial as a homepage is in your seo optimisation campaign, don’t forget to optimise the deeper pages to create a site the search engines (and therefore visitors!) will love!
